Article by: Sarah Kessler
Google announced Monday morning that they will be acquiring Motorola Mobility for $12.5 billion. As Sarah Kessler points out, acquiring a hardware company is an “unusual” move for Google.
Motorola is one of several manufacturers that use Google’s Android operating system.
Google CEO Larry Page said in a statement (see Yahoo Finance):
“Motorola Mobility’s total commitment to Android has created a natural fit for our two companies. Together, we will create amazing user experiences that supercharge the entire Android ecosystem for the benefit of consumers, partners and developers. I look forward to welcoming Motorolans to our family of Googlers.”
